ESQUIMALT MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES Open Tuesday - Thursday: 9 am - 12:00 noon* *Hours come into effect as of Phase 3 of BC Restart Plan (July 2021). Please contact Archivist directly at 250-414-7177 prior to visiting the Archives. Note that research queries are still answered by phone or email. No user fees. Charge for commercial reproductions. Collects, preserves, and makes available municipal records and community material relating to the history of Esquimalt. Collection includes extensive heritage home files and genealogical information on early families.

OAK BAY ARCHIVES Reading Room is open to the public (from July 2023), drop-in hours Tuesdays 10-1, by prior appointment all day Tuesdays & Fridays. Reference services are also available by email and phone. Staff: 1 professional archivist, half-time. No user fees. Charge for commercial reproductions. Documents, photographs, maps and other material relating to the history of Oak Bay, including some historic municipal records. Reference files about historic buildings, properties, events and organizations within Oak Bay. Small reference library and city directories 1966-1998.

SAANICH ARCHIVES Open Monday - Friday: 10 am - 2:30 pm. Closed on Statutory Holidays Information regarding user fees and charges for reproductions can be found on the website in the About the Archives section. Saanich Archives has a reference room for in-person research. We also welcome inquiries by phone or email. The Archives collects and preserves records of the Municipality of Saanich as well as letters, photographs, and other textural records relating to people and places in Saanich. We have reference materials including books on B.C. history, resident and subject files, copies of maps, directories, newspaper clippings, and online exhibits. We gratefully accept donations relating to the history of the District of Saanich and encourage donations of historical material from members of underrepresented communities.

SIDNEY MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES Hours: Research by appointment, 10 am to 4 pm daily. The Sidney Museum Archives is a department of the Sidney Museum and operated by the Sidney Museum and Archives Society. Holding mainly textual documents and photographs, the Archives contain material specifically related to the history of Sidney, North Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula. Significant collections include "The Review," a local newspaper from 1912-1989, photos and records from the Dominion Experimental Farm, and Sidney Municipal records. The Archives also contains a small library of published material, a collection of oral history transcriptions, and information about heritage properties in the area. Online database coming soon! |
